No NPP member can be exonerated from current economic mess – Mahama

John Mahama, former President of Ghana, has laid the blame for the country’s current economic challenges squarely on the shoulders of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He stated that all members of the NPP are complicit in the current economic situation and are now attempting to distance themselves from the mess.

During a town hall meeting in Tamale as part of his “Building Ghana Tour,” Mahama expressed that the NPP members cannot escape responsibility as they have all been part of the decision-making process in the country’s economic management. He emphasized that all decisions, including borrowing from the Eurobond market, were made collectively in the cabinet.

Addressing the NPP’s claim that the country is turning the corner, Mahama refuted this, pointing out that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has declared Ghana’s debt as unsustainable and in a distress situation. He criticized Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumiah for attempting to avoid responsibility for his role in the mismanagement of the economy.

Looking ahead to the 2024 general elections, Mahama assured Ghanaians that if the NDC is voted into power, they will work to turn around the economy. He also expressed confidence in the men and women within the NDC to restore the country’s economy and finances to a healthy condition.

In conclusion, Mahama called on NPP members to take responsibility for the economic challenges facing the country and learn their lessons. He reasserted his belief that the NDC would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections and promised to work towards revitalizing the economy if elected.
