Six Ghanaian rugby fraternity members have been accused of spreading false information about Mr. Herbert Mensah, the President of Africa Rugby, resulting in their arrest and subsequent court appearance.
The six individuals include a teacher, an IT professional, a transport manager, another teacher, a surveyor, and a plumber, who have all denied the charges brought against them. The charges range from conspiracy to commit offensive conduct, unlawful access or interception of information, and fraudulent communication.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Maxwell Oppong informed the court that the accused individuals had planned to tarnish the image of Mr. Mensah due to a disagreement with him. They allegedly developed and uploaded false write-ups on social media platforms, prompting Mr. Mensah to seek legal action against them.
The prosecution stated that the accused persons did not cease spreading disinformation about Mr. Mensah, despite the legal action taken against them.
Following an investigation, the suspects were charged with the offenses and brought before the court. Their next court appearance has been scheduled for February 29, 2024.
The accused individuals are alleged to have created multiple Facebook accounts with various articles about Mr. Mensah and his counsel, along with posting derogatory articles on their individual Facebook pages. These actions led to their arrest and the subsequent legal proceedings.
