The 2023 Grammy Awards have recently drawn attention to the producer of the viral hit, Water, which has been making waves.
Tyla from South Africa was honored with the first-ever Best African Music Performance trophy at the 66th Grammy Awards, thanks to this hit song.
What makes this even more fascinating is the fact that the producer of Water is a Ghanaian.
Recording Academy member, star producer, and DJ Juls revealed that Sammy Soso, professionally known as Sammy Soso, is the mastermind behind the production of Water. Sammy was previously nominated for a Grammy in the past, making this win even more significant for him.
Water, a blend of R&B with unmistakable Afrobeats and Amapiano influence, gained tremendous popularity after its release in July 2023. It even made it to the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the United States. While it dropped from the top 10 list on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2023, it continues to rise and is currently at number 11 on the chart.
The song was released under FAX Records, a division of Sony Music, Epic Records. Additionally, Sammy Soso and Tyla have another shot at success at the 2024 BRIT Awards.
Sammy Soso, who is of Ghanaian-British descent, has previously worked on successful Afrobeats projects like Wizkid’s Made In Lagos and Omah Lay’s Boy Alone. He was first nominated for a Grammy in 2021 for Best Global Music Album, for his work on Wizkid’s Made In Lagos. His latest project with Tyla, Truth Or Dare, is part of her debut self-titled EP.
