Sparqlyn wins 2025 APLA African Best Ghanaian Musician Award

Renowned Ghanaian music artist and cultural ambassador Sparqlyn, born Ahmmed Kanneh Larweh, has proudly been awarded the title of African Best Ghanaian Musician of the Year 2025 at the African Performance Leadership Awards (APLA).

The prestigious event took place on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Olumo Hall, Airport Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

This ceremony, organized by the African Performance Leadership Academy in partnership with EYE TV Africa, celebrated Sparqlyn’s profound impact on music and social development not only in Ghana but across the African continent.

With more than 20 years in the Ghanaian music scene, Sparqlyn initially gained fame as a founding member of the influential Hiplife group Dunsin, before embarking on a successful solo career in 2018.

His popular tracks, such as “Jump On Me,” “Your Body,” and “Tumpa,” have won international acclaim and a dedicated global fan base.

In addition to his musical achievements, Sparqlyn is highly regarded for his leadership role as the Development Chief in the Manya Krobo traditional area, where he is known as Nene Kanneh Larweh I, Noryam Matse.

In this capacity, he has launched scholarship programs for underprivileged youth and fostered unity among the Ga-Adangbe people, collaborating with senior traditional leaders on various developmental initiatives.

This March, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) honored Sparqlyn with two awards and a citation during the Akwaaba Festival, recognizing his dual influence in music and community service. His recent accolade at APLA reinforces his status as one of Ghana’s most significant contemporary figures.

The 2025 APLA ceremony also recognized other esteemed Ghanaians, including former President John Dramani Mahama, the Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, actress Juliet Ibrahim, H. E. Amb. Dr. Sam Owusu, and the Agricultural Development Bank Ghana, for their commendable leadership and contributions in their respective domains.

The event was chaired by His Emperor Majesty, Ambassador Dr. King Nkosinathi Eugene Mahlangu, Bongwe II of the Ndebele Kingdom in South Africa, showcasing the unity and leadership among African nations.

Keynote speeches were delivered by notable figures, including Dr. Shuaibu Danwakan and Ambassador Dr. Joseph Anthony Carew, focusing on urgent African issues such as climate change, terrorism, and good governance.
