Grammy-winning artist Chris Brown entered a not guilty plea on June 20, 2025, regarding allegations related to a serious assault in a London nightclub. The incident, which occurred in 2023, involved the alleged beating of a music producer.
At Southwark Crown Court, the 36-year-old singer faced one charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. Accompanying him was fellow musician Omololu Akinlolu, 38, known as “Hoody Baby,” who also pleaded not guilty to the same charge.
Prosecutors detailed how the altercation unfolded in February 2023 at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair. It is claimed that Brown initiated an unprovoked attack on producer Abe Diaw, repeatedly striking him with a bottle before proceeding to punch and kick him.
Surveillance footage captured the violent event in front of numerous witnesses in the bustling club. Following the incident, Brown was granted release on a bail amounting to £5 million ($6.75 million), permitting him to commence his world tour earlier this month.
A fixture in the music industry since his debut in 2005, Brown earned his first Grammy in 2011 for Best R&B Album with “F.A.M.E.” and claimed his second this year for “11:11 (Deluxe).” His well-known tracks include “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You.”
Brown’s tour is set to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam, with North American dates following in July.
