The tourism industry in Ghana is set to experience significant growth with the initiatives outlined by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Professor Kobby Mensah. In an interview with Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Professor Mensah revealed that his team has created twelve new tourism products and services.

One of the key products introduced is Night Tours, which aligns with the concept of a 24-hour economy proposed by the NDC. According to Professor Mensah, this initiative will allow Ghanaians to visit tourist attractions even after they finish work for the day.

“I don’t see why we cannot have night tours. The days are congested in Accra, and people are rushing home after work. We cannot force people to spend time after work, but we can encourage them with programs like night tours,” Professor Mensah stated.

In addition to Night Tours, the GTDC will also introduce other products such as Science Park tours and the Ghana Tourist Market Place to generate revenue for further investment in the tourism sector. The company will also introduce a service called Tourist Incentive Voucher (TIV), where high-performing employees will be rewarded with vouchers to explore various tourist attractions.

Professor Mensah emphasized that the GTDC is not only focused on the 24-hour economy but also on enhancing the Blackstar Experience. The GTDC, established in 1972, operates under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, with a mandate to promote tourism development in Ghana.
