Ghanaian musician Knii Lante has expressed his disapproval of a comment made by Member of Parliament Habib Iddrisu during John Dumelo’s vetting for the position of Deputy Minister Designate for Food and Agriculture.
During the vetting on February 25, 2025, Habib Iddrisu advised John Dumelo to take his new job seriously and not treat it like the movie industry, stating, “You are not in your movie industry, try to be as serious as you can.”
This remark did not sit well with many in the creative arts industry, who believe it belittles their profession and craft. Knii Lante, a medical doctor and musician, expressed his discontent with the MP’s comment on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio.
He criticized the notion that only doctors and lawyers can rule the country effectively, pointing out the current state of affairs. Knii Lante emphasized that music and movies are not just forms of entertainment but also serve educational, community-building, and health purposes.
His reaction reflects the sentiments of numerous people in the creative arts industry, who feel that Habib Iddrisu’s advice to John Dumelo undermines the value and importance of their profession.
