President John Dramani Mahama has recently appointed Kofi Okyere-Darko, also known as KOD, as the Director of Diaspora Affairs for the Republic of Ghana. KOD, a well-known media personality and creative entrepreneur, confirmed his new role on February 26, 2025.
This appointment highlights President Mahama’s dedication to strengthening the bonds between Ghana and its global diaspora. KOD’s experience in connecting with Ghanaians abroad will be instrumental in fostering investment opportunities, enhancing cultural exchange, and promoting economic collaboration.
Kofi Okyere-Darko is not only the CEO of the popular clothing line Nineteen 57 but also the founder of the annual fashion and music event Rhythms on Da Runway. Born as Richard Aidoo on January 13, 1978, in Winneba, Ghana, KOD comes from a family with a rich history of public service and activism.
After completing his education in Winneba and Nifa Secondary School in Adukrom, KOD attended the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He further pursued a Master of Arts in Public Relations degree from the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC).
KOD’s career in the media industry started as a production assistant at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and later on, he ventured into radio with Radio Gold. His international experience includes working for renowned fashion designers such as Ted Baker and Paul Smith in England before returning to Ghana to work in radio.
Throughout his career, KOD has held various roles such as presenter, events manager, marketing manager for EIB Network’s LIVE FM, and a respected Master of Ceremonies. His diverse background and expertise in communication and media make him a valuable asset in his new role as Director of Diaspora Affairs.
