A former girlfriend of popular Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage is taking legal action against him and their 34-year-old son for alleged “life-threatening injuries” she suffered during a violent altercation last year.
Christina Fulton, 57, has filed a lawsuit accusing their son, Weston Cage, of attacking her without any provocation. She described Weston as a “300-pound professional fighter” in the lawsuit.
Fulton is suing her son for assault and battery, while Cage, aged 61, is being sued for negligence, as she claims he failed to intervene and prevent their son’s violent behavior.
The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages for the physical, emotional, and economic harm Fulton endured due to the alleged attack by their son. However, Nicolas Cage’s legal team has dismissed the lawsuit as “frivolous”.
Weston Cage was arrested in June last year and charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking his mother and another individual. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to the civil complaint submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Fulton visited her son on 28 April 2024 after receiving urgent messages from his friends.
She claims that upon arrival, Weston attacked her in a manic rage in various locations within his residence, leaving her with severe injuries including a concussion, contusions, neck and throat injuries, dental trauma, tinnitus, abdominal trauma, and PTSD.
Fulton alleges that Nicolas Cage was aware of Weston’s history of mental and psychological disorders, as well as previous incidents of violent assault and battery. Despite this knowledge, Cage allegedly continued to enable his son’s behavior by providing financial support.
In response to the lawsuit, Brian Wolf, Nicolas Cage’s lawyer, stated that Cage does not control Weston’s actions and is not responsible for the alleged assault on Fulton.
The attorney representing Fulton, Joseph Farzam, argued that parents can be held responsible for adult children with mental disabilities who cannot support themselves. He claimed that Weston’s history of violence, coupled with his father’s enabling behavior, makes this a unique situation.
This is not the first legal trouble Weston Cage has faced. In 2011, he and his then-wife were arrested on felony domestic violence charges. In 2017, he was detained for driving under the influence and hit-and-run, leading to probation, a recovery program, and community service.
Fulton was previously in a relationship with Nicolas Cage from 1988 to 1991 and sued him in 2009 over a financial dispute. The case was settled in 2011 under undisclosed terms.
