Ghanaian artiste, Mr. Drew, recently shared insights into his experience working at Kaywa’s Highly Spiritual Music record label and how it prepared him for the challenges he would face in his career.
He revealed that his involvement in various projects at the label equipped him with valuable skills that proved beneficial even after he left the record company.
During an interview on Joy FM’s entertainment analysis programme, Showbiz A-Z, Mr. Drew disclosed that he had to fund some of the projects while still under the label. Despite this, he expressed confidence in his vision and the need to make things work for himself, even if it meant using his own resources.
Reflecting on his journey in the music industry over the past seven years, Mr. Drew highlighted the importance of understanding the business side of the craft. He emphasized the need for artists to be knowledgeable about paperwork, earnings, and contractual agreements to navigate successfully in the industry.
Although Mr. Drew initially thought he didn’t need to focus on the business side of music due to his contract with Highly Spiritual being the 360 type, he admitted that going independent has been a valuable learning experience for him.
He acknowledged that leaving the label allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of the industry and the dynamics of being an independent artist.
Known for his popular songs like ‘Dwe’, ‘Mood’, ‘This Year’, ‘Case’, and ‘Sneaky’, Mr. Drew recently released a new EP titled ‘The Loverboy.’
