A musical production based on the life of Dolly Parton was disrupted by homophobic abuse, leading the cast to temporarily leave the stage.
Actor Stevie Webb revealed on TikTok that during a performance of “Here You Come Again” at the Opera House in Manchester, a woman expressed disgust at the presence of a gay character in the show. This incident was followed by further trouble on another night when a man had to be escorted out of the audience.
ATG Entertainment, the company that manages the venue, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior. Webb also mentioned similar issues during the production’s run in London, recounting an incident where a man shouted offensive remarks before demanding to see Dolly Parton.
Dolly Parton, known for her support of LGBTQ rights and other progressive causes, has been a vocal advocate for gay marriage. Webb’s experience has shed light on the intolerance that still exists in some parts of society towards LGBTQ representation on stage.
