GIBA applauds Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko on his appointment as NCA Director-General

The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) has expressed its delight and congratulations to Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko on his recent appointment as the Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA).

In a statement issued by GIBA, the association hailed the announcement made by the Presidency on January 22, 2025, as a major milestone for the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors in the country.

Rev. Ing. Fianko, with over twenty years of experience in the electronic communications regulatory field, is no stranger to the industry, starting his journey as a National Service Person at the NCA and steadily progressing to the position of Director of Engineering.

According to GIBA, Rev. Ing. Fianko has shown a strong dedication to the development of radio frequency spectrum management, telecommunications regulation, and policy formulation throughout his career.

The association believes that his wealth of experience will be instrumental in shaping a dynamic and innovative broadcasting landscape in Ghana.

GIBA emphasized the importance of Rev. Ing. Fianko’s role in leading initiatives that will support a vibrant broadcasting sector, fostering innovation, and addressing challenges in the telecommunications industry.

The association highlighted his involvement in significant initiatives such as chairing the African Telecommunications Union Task Group on Rural Connectivity Spectrum Recommendations, showcasing his commitment to enhancing access and quality in the industry.

Furthermore, GIBA lauded Rev. Ing. Fianko’s educational background, which includes a first degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Master of Philosophy in Applied Business Leadership and Management. His credentials reflect his readiness to tackle the complexities of his new role as Director-General of the NCA.

GIBA expressed optimism that Rev. Ing. Fianko’s leadership will contribute positively to the collective goals of promoting the interests of independent broadcasters and advocating for the orderly development of the broadcasting sector in Ghana.
