The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman, has provided an update on the resolution of the copyright infringement case involving musician Kirani Ayat and the government.
This issue arose when Ayat accused the government of using parts of his music video in a tourism promotional video without his permission.
The video in question was shared by President Nana Akufo-Addo on World Tourism Day and featured scenes from Ayat’s music video for his song ‘Guda’.
Following the settlement between Ayat and the GTA, both parties agreed to collaborate on future projects aimed at showcasing Ghana’s beautiful landscapes and talented individuals to the world.
However, in a recent interview on Hitz FM, Akwasi Agyeman revealed that when the GTA approached Ayat for a collaboration on a project, the musician was not available.
Despite their willingness to work with him, Ayat and his team were not ready to proceed with the proposed project at that time.
Agyeman expressed the GTA’s continued interest in working with Kirani Ayat in the future, stating that they are still keen on collaborating with him.
Ayat had previously contacted the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture to endorse his video for use as a tourism promotional tool in the northern region of Ghana, but did not receive any response.
Although the specific details of the compensation paid to Ayat were not disclosed, both parties have confirmed their commitment to working together on tourism-related projects in the future.
