The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has recently launched the 2024 Dance to the Beat Peace Campaign in an effort to promote political tolerance as Ghana approaches the upcoming general election.

The campaign was officially kicked off at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on Monday, November 11, under the theme “Promoting Political Tolerance through Dance,” with a focus on engaging the public, especially the youth, through the medium of dance and music.

One of the key figures behind the initiative, Kizomba King, emphasized the power of dance as a tool for communication and building positive relationships in a recent interview with Channel One TV.

He explained that due to the challenging nature of political discourse in Ghana, particularly among the younger generation, he saw dance as a way to bridge communication gaps and foster unity within communities. He initially started the initiative in 2020 and received positive feedback, leading to its revival by the NCCE for the 2024 election cycle.

The Chairperson of the NCCE, Kathleen Addy, highlighted the campaign’s objective of using dance to convey messages about civic rights and political tolerance to create a more inclusive and peaceful electoral environment.

She emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and unity throughout the election process, emphasizing that regardless of the outcome, Ghana must remain united as one nation beyond the 2025 election cycle.

As the countdown to the December 7 polls continues, the NCCE aims to spread the message of peace through their pop-up dance events, reminding Ghanaians of the significance of preserving national unity and harmony.

By promoting political tolerance and civic engagement through dance, the campaign hopes to contribute to a smoother and more peaceful electoral process.
