Akisi Ackah, the Director of Marketing and Communications at GMX Multimedia, has clarified that the Ghanaian government is not funding the GMX music streaming platform.
In an interview on Hitz FM’s Showbiz Review Xtra, she emphasized that the government’s support for the platform is purely regulatory and operational, rather than financial.
She explained that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is providing support to ensure that the platform addresses industry concerns, particularly in collaboration with GHAMRO.
This partnership aims to enhance the regulatory environment in the music industry, combat piracy, and address related issues.
While Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had previously mentioned government funding for the platform’s development expenses, Akisi specified that the financial commitment would be directed towards the GHAMRO-music monitoring component of the GMX platform.
GMX, a Ghanaian-owned music streaming platform launched on October 30, 2024, at the De Icon Centre in Accra, is designed by Omni Strategies and operated with support from the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture. The platform is set to be fully operational by January 2025.
