Ghanaian rapper Edem Goget’em has sparked a debate among music fans with his recent post claiming that he should have won the Artiste of the Year award at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards.
In a post on social media, Edem compared his situation to this year’s Ballon d’Or, where Vinicius Jnr did not win despite the expectations of many. He expressed his belief that he deserved the award, but it went to another artist.
The nominees for the 2015 Artiste of the Year category at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards included Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee, Sarkodie, and Samini. Stonebwoy emerged as the winner of the award and mentioned in his acceptance speech that he believed the other artists were happy for him.
Edem, alongside Stonebwoy and Sarkodie, were the biggest winners of the night, each taking home three awards. Edem’s song ‘Koene’ received several nominations, including a nod for Best Rapper. The remix of his track ‘The One’ also earned him a nomination in the Best Rapper category.
The rapper’s post has ignited discussions on social media, with fans and music enthusiasts sharing their thoughts on whether Edem should have been crowned the Artiste of the Year in 2015.
