Beyoncé, the iconic singer, is set to make a special appearance in her hometown of Houston at a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The event is expected to draw a lot of attention as Harris’ presidential campaign has adopted Beyonce’s 2016 track “Freedom” as its anthem, highlighting the theme of freedom as a key message in the Democratic nominee’s bid.
Harris, who will be heading to the traditionally Republican state of Houston just 10 days before Election Day, plans to refocus her campaign on reproductive care, which Democrats consider a crucial issue this year.
The rally will also feature women affected by Texas’ strict abortion laws, which came into effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Beyoncé’s involvement with Harris is not new, as the Grammy winner has previously supported Democratic politicians.
She famously performed at former President Barack Obama’s inaugural ball in 2009 and sang the national anthem at his second inauguration in 2013. In 2016, Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z also performed at a pre-election concert for Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The upcoming rally in Houston is expected to bring even more attention to Harris’ closing message and highlight the importance of voting in the upcoming election.
