The authorities in Argentina have stated that a toxicology exam on the body of Liam Payne has not been completed yet, amidst reports of cocaine being found in his system.
The former One Direction star tragically passed away in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last week after falling from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur hotel.
A representative from the public prosecutor’s office met with Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, who is currently in Argentina, to provide an update on the investigation into the 31-year-old’s death.
Andrés Esteban Madrea informed Mr. Payne that the toxicology and histopathological exams have not been finalized, and the results are crucial before the body can be released to the family.
Recent reports indicate that an initial toxicology report revealed the presence of cocaine, a class A drug, in Payne’s body at the time of his demise. However, it is essential to note that this preliminary report does not offer an accurate measurement of the amount of the drug in his bloodstream.
The final toxicology results are anticipated to be disclosed in the coming weeks.
Argentine investigators discovered what appeared to be narcotics and alcohol scattered around broken objects and furniture in Payne’s hotel room, leading authorities to believe he may have experienced a substance abuse-induced breakdown before his fall.
The prosecution suggested that Payne could have been in a state of semi or total unconsciousness when he fell from the hotel balcony, resulting in “extremely serious injuries” after landing in the courtyard of the CasaSur Hotel.
Prior to his tragic death, the hotel’s desk manager alerted a 911 operator about a guest who was reportedly drunk and under the influence of drugs, causing disturbances in the room.
