The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is making significant strides in improving the welfare of musicians and promoting the growth of the Ghanaian music industry.

Under the leadership of President Bessa Simons, MUSIGA has embarked on various initiatives to uplift its members and the local music scene.

One of the key initiatives is the renewal of the partnership with SIC Life Insurance for the third consecutive year.

This partnership provides essential benefits such as financial support for families of deceased members, permanent disability coverage, as well as child and parental benefits.

The scheme has gained traction, with more members enrolling to secure their future and that of their loved ones.

In addition, MUSIGA celebrated Ghana’s independence with a series of events during Ghana Music Month.

These activities included health screenings, educational workshops, and concerts featuring both established and emerging artists. The events showcased the rich musical heritage of Ghana and highlighted the talents of local musicians.

Furthermore, MUSIGA has organized national capacity-building workshops in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale with the aim of empowering musicians and industry leaders with digital tools for revenue generation and promoting gender equality in the music industry.

Sponsored by the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF), these workshops aim to equip musicians with the necessary skills to navigate the evolving digital landscape.

As part of its efforts to expand its membership and support base, MUSIGA has launched a nationwide membership drive to emphasize the benefits of joining the union.

These benefits include access to workshops, insurance coverage, and industry resources essential for the growth and success of musicians. MUSIGA’s ultimate goal is to unite musicians under a strong banner that prioritizes their welfare and fosters their development in the industry.

The current executives of MUSIGA, including Rev Dr. Thomas Yawson, Abena Ruthy, Samuel Kofi Agyemang, Rev Eddie Eyison, Rev Mary Ghansah, and Chizzy Wailer, are dedicated to championing the rights and welfare of Ghanaian musicians.

The union looks forward to continuing its efforts to support, educate, and promote the talents of its members.

Finally, MUSIGA is gearing up for the launch of the MUSIGA Golden Jubilee Celebrations on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
