The Africa Cinema Summit (ACS) kicks off today at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, marking the start of its second edition.

Hosted by the National Film Authority (NFA) of Ghana, the summit will run from October 7 to October 10 under the theme, “Is Cinema Relevant in African Communities?”

This year’s summit will be headlined by the renowned British actor and Chairman of the IE7&The Akuna Group, Idris Elba. The Guest of Honour for tomorrow, October 8, will be King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse.

Representatives from various African countries such as Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Angola are expected to attend, along with executives from the African diaspora and representatives from investment bodies like Afreximbank and IFC.

During the launch of the ACS in June, the CEO of NFA, Juliet Asante, emphasized Africa’s cinematic potential, which she believes is still largely untapped.

The summit aims to address this gap by promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth within the African cinema industry.
