Joy Prime’s popular all-children TV show, 4Kids Paradise, has taken a significant step in addressing Ghana’s urgent environmental crisis of illegal mining, commonly known as ‘Galamsey.’
The show launched a campaign called ‘Say No to Galamsey’ on Saturday, September 28, 2024, with a specific focus on schools and children.
The aim of the campaign is to encourage children to voice their concerns and propose actionable solutions to the widespread devastation caused by illegal mining in the country.
During the campaign launch, students from God’s Grace International School were featured in an emotional segment where they wrote heartfelt letters to the President of Ghana.

They also put forward various solutions to help curb the menace, urging the government to enforce stricter legal measures and implement sustainable practices to protect the environment.
One of the presenters of 4Kids Paradise, Akosua Debrah, emphasized the significance of the campaign by organizing a tour of the Accra Zoo.
The tour aimed to shed light on how illegal mining not only endangers human livelihoods but also threatens the survival of wildlife.
The zoo, which replicates the natural habitats of animals in captivity, is essential for reintroducing them into the wild.
However, the guide, Mr. Samuel, highlighted that the forests, crucial for these animals’ natural homes, are being irreversibly damaged by illegal mining activities.
“The destruction of the forests due to ‘Galamsey’ doesn’t just affect humans,” Mr. Samuel explained, “When the forests are gone, animals lose their natural habitats. Our conservation efforts at the zoo are directly threatened if there are no safe environments for these animals to return to.”
The ‘Say No to Galamsey’ campaign initiated by 4Kids Paradise serves as both an awareness-raising effort and a call to action for government officials and other stakeholders.
