Spotify celebrates Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’ 10th anniversary

Spotify, the popular online streaming platform, marked the 10th anniversary of Wizkid’s hit song “Ojuelegba” with a special celebration.

The song, released in 2014, has amassed over 55 million streams on Spotify, showcasing its enduring popularity over the years.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed excitement about the milestone, stating that a special anniversary film had been released to commemorate the song’s impact and journey.

She highlighted how “Ojuelegba” played a crucial role in the global rise of Afrobeats, resonating with listeners around the world.

Since its release, “Ojuelegba” has achieved significant streaming milestones, reaching one million streams in 2015 and surpassing 10 million streams by 2018.

The song’s success is a testament to the growing influence of Afrobeats globally, with top streaming countries including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Nigeria, and the Netherlands.

Okumu also shared that Lagos emerged as the city streaming “Ojuelegba” the most, particularly in the month of August.

The song holds a special significance as it pays homage to Ojuelegba, a vibrant area in Lagos.
