Afro-jazz and neo-classical music lovers in Accra are in for a treat this weekend as +233 Jazz Bar and Grill presents two exceptional performances.
On Saturday, August 31, the talented singer, composer, and saxophonist Gyedu Blay Ambolley and his Sekondi Band will take the stage.
Ambolley is known for his unique blend of Highlife and Jazz, showcasing his versatility on the tenor saxophone.
Having developed his own style of music, Simigwa rap and dance, Ambolley promises to deliver a dynamic and engaging performance.
Originally scheduled for a 15-state tour of the United States, Ambolley has postponed the tour to early 2025.
However, he is excited to share the music he and his band have prepared for the postponed trip with his fans in Accra.
The Sekondi Band’s previous tours across Europe have garnered them recognition from global tour agents, who are always on the lookout for exceptional African talent.
On Sunday, September 1, the Pan-African Youth Orchestra (PAYO) will take the stage at 8.00 pm.
Comprised of young and talented musicians, PAYO explores different dimensions of African music using traditional instruments such as the Atenteben flute, gyile xylophone, kora, and an array of African drums and percussion instruments.
The orchestra has performed at various festivals and events across Africa and beyond, showcasing their re-worked versions of popular contemporary music by artists like Fela Kuti and Osibisa.
Star kora player, Seydou Diarra, will be a guest performer at the concert, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening.
Both performances promise to deliver an unforgettable musical experience for attendees, so be sure to mark your calendars and come out to support these talented artists.
