Renowned Ghanaian gospel artist, Joe Mettle, has weighed in on the ongoing copyright dispute between Team Eternity Ghana and Hallelujah Voices over the popular song ‘Defe Defe’.

The song was originally written by Osuani Afrifa and executively produced by Kwame Mickey for Kaakyire Music Productions back in 2004.

Kwame Mickey, the executive producer of ‘Defe Defe’, accused Team Eternity Ghana of infringing on the copyright of the song by using the same line in their recent release.

This accusation has ignited a heated debate on social media, with some arguing that the phrase ‘Defe Defe’ is not exclusive to Hallelujah Voices, while others point out the striking similarities in the lyrics.

In a recent interview on Citi 97.3 FM, Joe Mettle shared his thoughts on the matter, emphasizing the importance of preserving old songs.

He acknowledged the need for proper permission when sampling songs and lamented the loss of many songs due to lack of recognition for their composers.

Mettle also emphasized the importance of resolving such disputes amicably, highlighting the need for unity among Christians to prevent such conflicts from escalating.

He expressed hope that the issue between Team Eternity Ghana and Hallelujah Voices would be settled peacefully, with due acknowledgment and appreciation for the original creators.

Looking ahead, Joe Mettle is set to hold his highly anticipated ‘2024 Praise Reloaded Concert’ at the Accra Sports Stadium on June 30th.
