Renowned gospel artiste, Joe Mettle, has called for a resolution to the copyright infringement dispute between dynamic gospel music group, Team Eternity Ghana, and Kwame Mickey, the executive producer for Hallelujah Voices.

The controversy arose over Team Eternity Ghana’s popular song “Defe Defe,” which has amassed over two million views on YouTube since its release on May 1, 2024.

Kwame Mickey claims that the group unlawfully sampled Hallelujah Voices’ 2004 song of the same name, originally written by Osuani Afrifa and produced by Kaakyire Music Productions.

Mickey has threatened legal action if Team Eternity Ghana does not acknowledge the original creators of the song. In light of this situation, Joe Mettle, speaking on Citi FM’s Breakfast Show, urged both parties to come to a peaceful resolution.

He highlighted the importance of properly registering songs and utilizing appropriate publishing platforms to avoid similar disputes in the future.

Mettle emphasized the significance of preserving old songs and preventing them from being lost due to legal battles over sampling. He pointed out that seeking permission to sample music can often be challenging, and suggested that resolving disputes amicably is the best course of action.
