The Tennessee Crossroads television show has been a staple on Nashville Public Television since it first aired in 1987.

The show, which follows host Joe Elmore as he travels to small towns in Tennessee, was hosted by Elmore for an incredible 37 years until his recent passing.

Joe Elmore, a native of Arkansas, earned his Bachelor’s degree in journalism from Arkansas State University and his Master’s degree in broadcasting and film from the University of Memphis. Before moving to Nashville in 1985, Elmore worked as a general assignment reporter, weekend anchor, and feature reporter for WHBQ-TV in Memphis.

Throughout his career, Elmore received numerous accolades, including being inducted into The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Nashville/Midsouth Chapter’s Silver Circle in 2014. This prestigious honor is bestowed upon individuals with at least 25 years of service to the television industry who have made significant contributions to their communities.

In addition to his work on Tennessee Crossroads, Elmore co-hosted Detroit Muscle on NBC Sports and hosted Horsepower on Spike TV. His impact on the world of television and his local community was truly immeasurable.

Sadly, Joe Elmore passed away on June 17, 2024, after battling a long illness. His death was confirmed by Nashville Public Tennessee, with Tennessee Crossroads’ executive producer Ed Jones paying tribute to Elmore as “a legend and a dear friend.”

While the cause of his death has not been officially disclosed, a special tribute episode of Tennessee Crossroads will air on July 25, 2024, in honor of his legacy and contributions to public television.

Joe Elmore will be remembered for his phenomenal skills, kind-heartedness, and wonderful sense of humor. His dedication to his work and his passion for showcasing the stories of small-town Tennessee will continue to inspire and uplift viewers for years to come.
