Gregg Burke, a college golf coach at the University of Rhode Island, has been making waves for his impressive career in sports and academia.
Born in Warwick, Rhode Island, Burke attended Pilgrim High School before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross in 1980.
His journey in the sports industry began as a Graduate Assistant at Boston College and an Assistant Director of Sports Information at the University of Michigan.
After serving as the Sports Information Director at Holy Cross Athletics and later as the Associate Director of Athletics at Providence College, Burke went on to receive a Master’s of Education from Providence in 1998.
He then served as the Vice President of the International Basketball League before starting his consulting firm, GB Productions, and eventually joining the University of Rhode Island as the Head Golf Coach.
Burke has dedicated much of his time to the Academic All-America Rewards Program at Rhode Island University, where he’s a National Chairman and co-founder of the Academic All-America Hall of Fame.
In addition to his work in sports, Burke is actively involved in various charities and organizations, including the Rhode Island Special Olympics, the Rhode Island ALS, and Rock ‘N Jock Charities.
Despite his busy career, Burke also managed to maintain a family life. He was married to Doris Burke, a prominent sports announcer and analyst known for her work in both college and professional basketball.
The duo met while pursuing their Master’s degrees in Education at Providence College and went on to have two children together, a daughter named Sarah and a son named Matthew.
Although they divorced in 2012, the two remain committed as parents and grandparents, sharing a grandson named Harrison Rhys Mickles and a granddaughter named Eliza Josephine Mickles.
In a heartwarming post on social media, Gregg Burke recently shared a photo of himself and Doris, showing support for his ex-wife at their child’s wedding.
