Fuddruckers, the popular hamburger chain that first opened its doors in San Antonio, Texas in 1979, recently found itself at the center of a social media storm. Rumors began circulating online on May 23, 2024, claiming that Fuddruckers would be closing down all of its remaining locations by the end of the year.
The speculation stemmed from a now-deleted TikTok video that also alleged other well-known restaurant chains like Pizza Hut and Applebee’s would be shutting down multiple locations as well. With over 50 outlets across the US, Mexico, and Canada, this news sent shockwaves through the food industry.
Fuddruckers CEO quickly took to Instagram to address the misinformation, stating, “Our brand has been made aware of the misinformation stated by a non-credible blog. Our brand will not be closing all stores in 2024.” The CEO reassured customers that Fuddruckers would be welcoming new franchises into their system and would continue to operate both nationally and internationally.
Ownership of Fuddruckers changed hands in 2021 when Nicholas Perkins, the CEO and president of Fuddruckers and Perkins Management Services, acquired the franchise. A North Carolina native and professor at Howard University, Perkins has big plans for the future of Fuddruckers, promising a “bigger, bolder, and beefier” brand moving forward.
Despite the false rumors surrounding its closure, Fuddruckers remains a beloved destination for burger lovers, serving up delicious fare in its iconic locations across North America. Fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their favorite burger joint is here to stay.
