Holiday shopping may not be the first thing that comes to mind on the last Monday of May, but for millions of Americans, the long weekend allows them more time to shop until they drop.
Shoppers nationwide are eager to snag some deals on last-minute items for their cookouts, barbecues, and outdoor festivities, but not all stores are open over Memorial Day weekend, or on Memorial Day 2024.
Hundreds of supermarkets across the US are shutting their doors in observance of Memorial Day. However, plenty are remaining open and offering steep discounts on Memorial Day essentials like hot dogs, hamburgers, and coleslaw.
One such chain is Albertsons, which will remain open for business all weekend long. Albertsons will be open on Saturday, May 25, Sunday, May 26, and Memorial Day Monday, May 27.
The chain will also be operating under normal business hours, allowing shoppers to browse and purchase items at their leisure in the morning, afternoon, and evening. While hours vary based on location, most Albertsons locations should have normal opening and closing times.
Of course, there may be some exceptions to this rule, as some stores may be offering reduced hours due to limited staff. We recommend shoppers check with their local Albertsons store before making the trip.
Shoppers can find an Albertsons nearby using their online location finder or by browsing their store directory online. Some departments, including in-store pharmacies, may also be closed all day or closing earlier than usual.
Albertsons is open almost all year-round, with some locations even open on major federal holidays. The supermarket chain only closes on Christmas Day, December 25, but some stores may still be open for a few hours.
Albertsons operates under reduced hours a few times a year, including New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve. Otherwise, the chain operates under normal business hours year-round.
Albertsons was founded on July 21, 1939, by Joe Albertson, a former Safeway District Manager. Partnering with fellow businessman L.S. Skaggs, the first combination food/drug store launched in Texas became a huge success.
Today, Albertsons stores can primarily be found on the West Coast. The supermarket has acquired many additional grocery chains throughout the US, making it the second-largest supermarket chain in the US after Kroger.
Including its subsidiary locations, the chain has over 2,270+ locations as of December 2023. Albertsons storefronts can be found in 14 different states across the US.
