The Indy 500 is back this Sunday, showcasing some of the best talent in American motorsport. Last year, Josef Newgarden emerged victorious, taking home a whopping $3.6million in prize money.

This year, the stakes are high as Newgarden faces tough competition from the likes of Scott McLaughlin and Will Power.

Although the prize money for this year’s event is yet to be announced, last year’s winner pocketed a significant chunk of the $17 million total prize pot. The race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 26, at 12:45pm ET / 5:45pm BST, with US viewers able to catch the action live on NBC.

Sky Sports will broadcast the event live for UK audiences, providing an opportunity for fans to witness the thrilling action at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Newgarden, a two-time Indy 500 winner, is determined to defend his title, despite facing challenges earlier in the year due to rule violations.

In a recent statement, Newgarden expressed his regret over the incident, stating, “I want to deeply apologize to our fans, our partners, my teammates, the competitors that I race against. Anybody that’s in our community.

I’ve worked my entire career to hold myself to a very high standard and clearly I’ve fallen very short of that in this respect. It’s a difficult thing to wrestle with. It’s a very embarrassing thing to go through.”
