Fans of the hit show Big Bang Theory have been eagerly anticipating a character’s death on its prequel, Young Sheldon. However, when the heartbreaking death of Sheldon Cooper’s father occurred, it still came as a shock to viewers.
In the series, George Cooper, Sheldon’s father, played by Lance Barber, has been a recurring character. Sheldon often references his late father throughout the Big Bang Theory, but viewers finally got to meet George in Young Sheldon.
In the episode titled “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture,” which aired on May 9, 2024, George suffers a heart attack off-screen and passes away.
Executive producer Steve Holland spoke about the decision to keep George’s death off-camera, stating that they wanted to focus on how the family would receive the news and cope with the loss.
The team behind Young Sheldon knew that George’s death would not be featured in the series finale, as they wanted to maintain the show’s positive and loving family vibe.
The finale of Young Sheldon will air on May 16, 2024, with two back-to-back episodes at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
Fans can also stream the episodes on Paramount+. Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik will reprise their roles as adult Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler in the series finale, providing closure for fans of the beloved show.
