Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) has made adjustments to the nominations process, reinstating Amerado’s hit song “Kwaku Ananse” as a contender for the Most Popular Song of the Year award.
This decision comes after a one-week window for errors & omissions in the nominations process.
In a press release on Monday, April 15th, 2024, the TGMA board detailed the corrections made during the evaluation period. One notable oversight was regarding the categorization of Amerado’s track “Kwaku Ananse.”
Originally nominated for Best Highlife Song in its remix version, the board recognized the original rendition’s popularity and significance.
As a result, “Kwaku Ananse” is now a nominee for both Best Highlife Song and Most Popular Song of the Year categories. Another adjustment highlighted in the press release is the song “Lonely Road” by O’Kenneth & Xlim Kid, which was initially submitted as a featured work but has been rectified to reflect it as a joint project by both artists.
Representing the 25th TGMA Board, Robert Klah expressed gratitude to the music community for actively participating in the Errors & Omissions window. He reiterated the board’s commitment to fairness and transparency in the awards process, acknowledging the valuable contributions of stakeholders over the past 25 years.
Ghanaian rapper Amerado had previously raised concerns about the nomination process, particularly regarding why “Kwaku Ananse” was initially overlooked. “Kwaku Ananse Remix – Amerado ft Fameye” secured a spot in the best collaboration category, while “The Hardest – Amerado” earned a nomination in the best rap performance category.
