Chief Executive Officer of the Chosen Rehab Centre, Apostle Daniel Cobby Washington, has expressed concern over the lack of employment opportunities for individuals who have successfully overcome their addictions.
In a recent interview on Showbiz A-Z on JoyFM, Apostle Washington highlighted the challenges faced by former rehab patients in securing jobs and reintegrating into society. He pointed out that the failure of society to provide employment opportunities for these individuals can lead to a relapse into their previous habits.
Apostle Washington emphasized the importance of giving these individuals a fresh start and supporting them in their journey to recovery. He noted that in other countries, former rehab patients are able to find employment at places like McDonald’s, Burger King, or KFC, but face difficulty in Ghana when trying to secure employment.
He raised concerns about the stigmatization faced by former rehab patients and the risks they face of falling back into their old habits if they are unable to find stable employment. Apostle Washington emphasized the need for a supportive community and opportunities for these individuals to start afresh.
The CEO’s comments come in the wake of a JoyNews hotline documentary titled ‘Creative Addictions’ by Joy FM journalist Kwame Dadzie. The documentary explores the experiences of various creatives who have struggled with drug addiction and the challenges they have faced in overcoming their addictions.
Several Ghanaian creatives, including Kiki Gyan, Timothy Bentum, OJ Blaq, Nasty, Lord Kenya, Okomfo Kwadee, Sugartone, Red Eye of 2Toff fame, former Peace FM presenter Eric Noah King, Bak Tye, Jay Dee, and others have shared their stories of addiction and recovery in the documentary.
Experts in psychiatry also provide insights into the ways in which individuals struggling with drug addiction can be supported and helped to overcome their challenges. The documentary sheds light on the impact of drug addiction on the lives of creatives in Ghana and the importance of providing support and opportunities for those seeking to recover.
It is imperative for society to not only support individuals in their journey to recovery but also provide them with the necessary resources and opportunities to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into the community.
