Ghanaian musician Sista Afia recently took to social media to express her disappointment and frustration for not receiving any nominations at the Ghana Music Awards.
In a heartfelt post, she questioned whether she had offended someone on the high table of the awards, especially considering the success of her song ‘Asuoden’ in 2021.
Despite the song’s popularity, Sista Afia was left disheartened after receiving zero nominations, leading her to question the integrity of the award board. She lamented what she perceived as an injustice in the nomination process, suggesting that some artists receive nominations without even filing for them.
The talented musician, who has consistently delivered hit songs since entering the industry nearly a decade ago, feels that her hard work is being undermined and her deserved recognition is being diminished. While she usually treads carefully to avoid conflict, she expressed that she can no longer keep silent about the situation that is weighing her down.
Sista Afia wrote on social media, “Have I offended someone at the high table? The fact that Asuoden was a big song in 2021 got zero nominations, which I still don’t get. I learnt people don’t even file for nominations but get them, the downplay on my efforts ever since I started doing music in Ghana hasn’t been fair to my craft.”
She added, “And yes, it hurts because I work so hard. I’ve been quiet for so long because I have respect for the scheme and I don’t want to step on no one’s toes.”
Meanwhile, her fans have flooded her comment section with reassuring messages about her value and unmatched contribution to the music industry.
