President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has dismissed the Commissioner-General for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah from office with immediate effect. The dismissal was announced on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
Also, the President in his power has dissolved GRA board with immediate effect. Even though the President gave no reason for his action, a new board is expected to be established in due course.
Meanwhile, Julie Essiam has been appointed to act as his replacement, according to sources.
The calls for the removal of Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai from office have been making waves time since he exceeded the legal age limit for public servants.
Last year in December, a group known as the Concerned Citizens of Ghana, threatened a protest against his continued stay in office and that of his deputy Madam Julie Essiam.
In addition, a minority in parliament led by Hon. Samuel Nartey George the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram also protested for his removal.
The MP described the then GRA Boss as someone who has no valid contract with the state and cautions companies to stop their engagement with him.
