A tragic incident occurred in Krachi, in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region, as Akwasi Obempah, the official driver of Nana Mprah Besemuna Ill, Krachiwura, lost his life by drowning in the Volta Lake.
The Akwamuhene of Krachi, Nana Ato Odyifase I, shared that the driver had left the palace to wash the Krachiwura’s official vehicle at the old site before 0700hours. Unfortunately, the vehicle drifted into the River and submerged, leading to the tragic incident.
A search party, including the Marine Police, Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Military, and community divers, located the vehicle with the deceased nearby and brought both ashore.
The deceased’s body was taken to the morgue of the Municipal hospital, while the Toyota V8 vehicle was parked at the Ghana Police Service premises. Nana Besemuna, who is also the President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, reported the incident to the Police.
A Police source confirmed the incident and mentioned that investigations are ongoing. This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety and the need for caution when near bodies of water to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
