The Wesley Girls Senior High School has received a significant boost with the commissioning of a digital depository by the Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This digital repository, established in memory of Dr. Bawumia’s late mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia, provides a modern technological system that digitizes records of the school, including information about past and current students and staff.
Through unique access codes, individuals associated with the school can readily access confidential information about themselves or general information about the school. Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude to the Wesley Girls High School 1960 year group for their support and initiative in creating this digital repository.
The Vice President’s contribution of GHȼ300,000.00 towards this project has enabled the capture and digitalization of records of staff and students, turning them into valuable digital content. Dr. Bawumia highlighted the immense benefits of this digital repository, emphasizing its importance in facilitating the retrieval of essential records and aiding students in meeting deadlines for academic and professional advancement applications.
This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to advancing digital initiatives in schools to prepare young Ghanaians for the digital revolution of the 4th Industrial era. With the provision of free Wi-Fi to schools and upcoming distribution of one laptop to each SHS student, the government aims to equip students with the necessary tools and resources for their educational journey.
The Headmistress of the school expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his support, while the 1960 year group of the Old Students Association also made a presentation to show appreciation for his kindness towards the school. Dr. Bawumia urged other educational institutions to follow the example set by Wesley Girls High School and emphasized the importance of digitalization in preserving and sharing historical documents that reflect the school’s rich heritage and contribution to Ghana’s educational landscape.
