Asenso-Boakye engages Japanese ambassador on completion of key road projects

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, engaged in bilateral discussions with the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mochizuki Hisanobu, to focus on the timely completion of essential road infrastructure projects in the nation.

During the meeting, there was a mutual acknowledgment of the Ghanaian government’s gratitude towards Japan for its consistent support in driving socio-economic development, particularly in the infrastructure sector.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye emphasized the significance of the Volivo bridge project in enhancing connectivity and promoting economic activities in the region, urging Ambassador Hisanobu to expedite the securing of additional funding for the project.

Ambassador Hisanobu assured that efforts were in motion to facilitate the necessary funding arrangements for the Volivo bridge project, showcasing Japan’s commitment to fostering ongoing collaboration with Ghana.

The discussions also touched upon the progress of key projects such as the Kumasi Inner Ring Road (Asokwa to Santansi Roundabout) and the Tema-Motorway Interchange Phase 2, with measures being implemented to ensure their successful completion.

Furthermore, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) agreed to provide additional grant funding to cover increased costs incurred during the construction of the Assin Praso-Assin Foso Road Project, attributed to factors like fuel price hikes, material escalation, and challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
