Reports from the Ashanti Region indicate that around seven passengers are in critical condition following a recent robbery attack near Jamasi, close to Mampong.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 am on Friday, involving a group of armed men who robbed passengers on various vehicles, including a VIP bus with registration number AC 7419-15 that was traveling from Accra to Yeji.
The attackers also managed to steal an ambulance.
It is reported that the robbers set up a roadblock, which led to the terrifying incident. The driver of the VIP bus, who shared his experience with Adom News’ Daniel Tachie, described the encounter as a frightening ordeal.
According to the driver, as they ascended a hill, the robbers signaled for the bus to stop with a torchlight, leading him to believe it was a police checkpoint initially.
The armed men then forcefully entered the bus, firing their weapons indiscriminately, and proceeded to steal parcels that were being delivered, as well as the driver’s money.
Thankfully, there was a police escort on board the VIP bus who engaged in a shootout with the robbers, injuring one of them. However, some passengers sustained injuries as a result of the gunfire and are currently receiving treatment at the Mampong Government Hospital.
The authorities are investigating the incident, and a video attached to this article provides further details.
