The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hawa Koomson, is reaching out to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to reconsider its decision to blacklist her.
Earlier this year, the GJA instructed journalists to avoid covering any events involving the Awutu Senya East MP after an alleged attack on a journalist during the NPP’s parliamentary aspirants’ vetting in Cape Coast.
In response, a statement released by her Press Secretary, Kabore Awudu Moro, expressed the Minister’s concern about the decision. It also stated that she recognizes the essential role of the media in democracy and is committed to creating an environment that protects journalists in their line of duty.
“While unequivocally condemning the reported incident, she vehemently denies all accusations leveled against her and her associates,” the statement said.
The Minister is urging the GJA leadership to reconsider its decision, emphasizing the absence of evidence implicating her in the incident. She also called for trust in the ongoing investigation by the Ghana Police Service to apprehend the alleged attacker.
Additionally, the statement mentioned the Minister’s intention to initiate a dialogue with the GJA leadership in the coming days to address any misunderstandings and foster a constructive relationship between her and the media.
