The tragic death of a Form One student at Kalpohini Senior High School in the Northern Region has prompted two separate investigations to uncover the circumstances of the incident. According to sources within the Police, an investigation is currently underway despite the family’s reluctance to authorize an autopsy.
Simultaneously, the school has formed a three-member committee to further probe the matter. Headmistress Hajia Ramatu Awudu stated that detailed information would only be provided upon the completion of the investigations.
The deceased student, Yakubu Iddi, had been unwell for some time but had not notified school authorities. It was on Sunday, during prep time, that Iddi’s deteriorating condition was discovered. Students found him in a distressed state, vomiting, and unable to eat.
Efforts were made to seek immediate medical attention for Iddi, but tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The swift action of the students in moving Iddi prompted tensions among local youth who felt that the school authorities were delaying, but authorities were able to de-escalate the situation.
In a related incident, another Form One student, Abamwora Peter Aurpio, studying Auto Mechanics at Dabokpa Technical and Vocational Institute, has also passed away. The Northern Regional Director of TVet Service revealed that Peter was found unconscious in a classroom by his classmates during an evening study session. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Both incidents are under investigation, and authorities have assured that efforts are underway to ensure transparency and accountability. These tragic incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of students in educational institutions.
