We need to intensify our scouting at the district level – Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu

The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, is calling for a major overhaul of the scouting process at the district level in the wake of the Black Stars’ disappointing exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Expressing his concern over the team’s failure to build lasting bonds, Hon. Mensah Bonsu stressed the need to re-evaluate the recruiting process, suggesting a lack of cohesion between globally recruited players and team unity.

“Our grassroots football was once strong – colts football and academicals were thriving, and even our first division teams, now called premier teams, used to play reserve soccer. But where has it all gone?” he addressed Parliament.

“Now we are bringing in players from all over the world who are not able to gel together for a long time. We talk about Cape Verde, but do they have a strong local football administration? All their players are playing in Portugal, so they know each other. That’s not the case here. We bring in players from various places, and in that regard, we should give our handlers enough time to address this. They should help us discover raw talents at the district level and form strong teams there.”
