Ghana’s Sports Minister, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, did not mince words when he addressed Parliament about the performance of the Black Stars in three major tournaments, labeling it as ‘not acceptable.’

Speaking to the nation’s lawmakers, Hon. Ussif expressed his disappointment with the team’s lackluster showings in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the 2022 World Cup, and the recent Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.

Despite significant investments from the Government, the Minister highlighted ongoing underperformance, leading to questions about the team’s trajectory.

“The Black Stars’ performance in the last three major tournaments, specifically the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and 2023 AFCON in Cote D’ Ivorie, where Ghana exited at the group stages of all three tournaments, despite Government’s continuous significant investment in the team is not acceptable,” he said.

Ghana exited the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the group stage with two points, exited the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with one point and the 2022 World Cup with three points.
