An Indonesian football player tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning during a match on Saturday.
Septain Raharja, 35, who played for Football Boots Indonesia (FBI) Subang, was hit by a bolt of lightning at 4:20 p.m. during his game against 2 FLO FC Bandung at Siliwangi Stadium.
The incident was captured on video, showing Raharja collapsing to the ground as his teammates rushed to his aid.
Despite still breathing after being initially assessed, Raharja was later pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital with severe burns caused by the lightning strike. This marks the second instance within a year that a player from Indonesia has been hit by lightning.
In a previous incident, a young player was struck but fortunately survived. Sadly, back in 2004, an 18-year-old soccer player was killed during a practice session in Singapore due to a lightning strike.
Upon learning the tragic news, many fellow soccer players paid tribute to Raharja on social media. The entire football community has been left in shock and mourning at this terrible loss.
This serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that soccer players face, even during a seemingly routine match.
