Merck Foundation, in partnership with African First Ladies and other key stakeholders, has announced the launch of the “MARS Best African Woman Researchers Awards” to mark International Day of Girls and Women in Science. The aim is to empower and recognize women in science and technology and narrow the gender inequality gap in these areas.
In 2023, 6 Researchers from 6 different African Countries were awarded in two categories – Best African Women Researchers and Best African young Researchers. Furthermore, Merck Foundation also provides scholarships to female doctors, representing 46% of the total 1700 scholarships, to empower African Women in the areas of Science and Technology.
The foundation also announced the Call for Applications for Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit – MARS Awards 2024 to empower Women and Youth in STEM in Africa with a special focus on scientific research in Women Health and Infertility & Reproductive Health.
Merck Foundation is dedicated to improving access to quality and equitable healthcare solutions, building scientific research capacity, and empowering people in STEM with a focus on women and youth. Their efforts aim to support girl education, end child marriage, raise awareness, and support girl education through various programs, books, songs, and animation films.
The foundation is inviting applications for the MARS Awards 2024 from final year PhD students, young investigators involved in research, and Medical Doctors in Postgraduate Medical Fellowship program related to Women Health and Infertility and Reproductive Care topics. The last date of submission for applications is 30th June 2024.
