Construction work on the 33.4km Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project is halfway completed and on track to meet the scheduled completion date.
The project is part of the Accra-Kumasi road network and began in 2022 with a two-year duration, ending in July 2024. This road is a crucial route for communities in the Ga West Municipal Assembly, including Pokuase, Amasaman, Medie, and Sarpeiman. It also plays a vital role in trade between Ghana and neighboring landlocked countries and for transit cargo movement from Ghana’s ports to these destinations.
Mr. Kwabena Bempong, the Chief Resident Engineer for the project, assured the Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, that the project is progressing as expected. He shared that the progress is at about 50 per cent, with plans to be substantially complete by the end of the year. Significant work has been done, including foot bridges that are 50 per cent complete, two overpasses, and an underpass at Medie, Pobiman, and Amasaman. Additionally, a three-tier interchange at Nsawam is 20 per cent complete, with the railway bridge around 50 per cent complete.
The cost of the project is estimated to be over GH¢342k, funded by the Government of Ghana, and when completed, the road will feature three lanes, service roads, one interchange, two overpasses, and an underpass.
The construction is undertaken by Maripoma Enterprise Limited, a local construction firm, and the Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress, emphasizing the importance of delivering quality work.
While the construction continues, the ministry is also focused on ensuring the safety of motorists and residents by addressing issues such as excessive dust due to the ongoing work, appealing to all concerned parties to be cautious and reduce speed on the stretch.
The Minister also visited the Flowerpot Flyover, which is 70 per cent complete, and the upcoming dualization of the Adentan-Dodowa Road.
With this progress, it is evident that the government is committed to infrastructure development and the improvement of road networks in the country.
