A 14-year-old girl from Bibiani in the Western North Region of Ghana has become a teenage mother after being allegedly defiled by a man who has since absconded.
The primary 6 pupil, who had traveled to Bibiani for a vacation with her grandparents, was reportedly defiled by one Kwaku Oduro and his two friends in a bush at Jerusalem, a village in Bibiani.
The parents of the suspect reportedly pleaded with the victim’s parents to settle the matter domestically and promised to compensate her with ¢7,000. However, they failed to fulfill their promise. Now, the teenage mother is left in dire need of basic necessities for herself and her six-month-old baby after dropping out of school.
The alleged perpetrator and his family have not shown any interest in the child nor have they expressed remorse for the crime committed. The teenage mother has taken her plea for assistance to Nhyira Fm’s Obra show in hopes of finding support for her and her child.
This case highlights the urgent need for justice and assistance for young victims of sexual assault in Ghana. It also underscores the importance of implementing and enforcing laws to protect and support survivors of sexual violence. The young mother’s appeal for help, in the face of her situation, calls for an urgent response from authorities and the community to ensure she receives the necessary support and care.
