The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has taken steps to address recent incidents of violence in the region, particularly in Bawku and Binduri. In an emergency REGSEC session on January 22, a temporary ban was imposed on motorcycle riding in response to the escalating violence.
As part of the measures implemented, the curfew hours in Bawku have been adjusted, extending the timing from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, increasing it from the previous 8:00 pm to 5:00 am. Furthermore, a temporary prohibition on motorcycle riding has also been enacted in the Binduri district.
The changes were officially announced in a press release dated January 29, signed by Alhaji Abubakari Inusa, the Regional Coordinating Council’s Chief Director. This release also directed the Binduri District Assembly’s District Security Committee (DISEC) to enforce the directive starting January 29, 2024.
