The Roman Ridge School in Accra, Ghana, has once again displayed an outstanding performance in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2023, organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society (UK).
The school secured a total of 269 medals out of 34,924 participants from across the Commonwealth, setting a record-breaking achievement.
In the competition, TRRS submitted an unprecedented 637 entries, and this resulted in 22 Gold, 98 Silver, and 146 Bronze medals, with three Gold Medal Finalists shortlisted for the overall global prize. The theme of the competition, ‘A Youth Powered Commonwealth,’ resonated with the students, who eloquently addressed the role of young people in global development and advocacy through their creative writing.
Distinguished guests at the awards ceremony, including Keith McMahon, Deputy British High Commissioner to Ghana, and John Apea, Head of Mission at the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), commended the students for their exceptional performance and emphasized the significance of literacy and communication skills in shaping future leaders. Valerie Mainoo, Principal of TRRS, expressed her pride in the students’ achievements and extended gratitude to the staff and parents for their unwavering support.
In a congratulatory message, Rev. Dr. Joyce R. Aryee, Chair of the TRRS Academic Board of Governors, urged the students to continue leveraging their voices to effect positive change in the world, emphasizing that their success marks only the beginning of their journey.
