The Keta Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Gemegah, has moved to dispel recent reports of a surge in tidal waves causing destruction in the Keta municipality of the Volta Region.
It was reported that the community was facing significant devastation due to tidal waves, sparking fear and anxiety among residents.
However, Gemegah clarified that the reports were inaccurate and that there was minimal tidal wave activity along a part of the Abutiakope beach, with no significant destruction to properties, human lives, or livelihoods.
Gemegah urged the public to remain calm and not spread false news that could cause unnecessary panic.
He reassured residents that the municipal authorities were well-prepared to handle any potential natural disasters, including tidal waves, and highlighted the measures in place to mitigate their impact.
In a statement, he emphasized the importance of responsible reporting and urged media outlets and individuals to verify information before dissemination.
The Keta Municipal Assembly is working with the Ghana Hydrological Authority through the Ministry of Works and Housing to build resilience at the municipality’s beaches and mitigate the effects of coastal erosion.
